Reyie Delgado
Reyie Delgado found the world of dance by accident. Born in Monterrey, Mexico, he migrated to the America at the age of five and started dancing at fourteen. Being put in a dance class instead of theatre by mistake during his first year of high school, Reyie found his true passion for life. Upon graduation he started to teach dance and do workshops all over Texas gaining recognition for his creative movements that mix the styles of Hip Hop, Martial Arts, Modern, Jazz, Ballet, House, and Funk. Always promising a fun explosive and dynamic show, Reyie now teaches at YES College Prep, under the direction of Eloisa Castillo, who helped him find his dance company Sol Y Luna. In love with what he does he hopes that one day he will inspire people of all ages with his story telling choreography.
TGL: What was your first job?
REYIE: My first job in dance was at a local church called Impact Youth Development Center. I was visiting at the moment and some how I ended up walking out there as a volunteer to start teaching Hip Hop for free to young kids there. It was so much fun and I was excited that I was teaching! For some reason the kids and I connected very well, and before I knew it I was all over town helping kids in need doing out reach programs for local churches, schools, and youth groups.
TGL: What is your inspiration?
REYIE: My inspirations are every single person and thing that lives in the world and fights for what they dream!! My family, friends, and animals... Every single dance show I see, every single performance that I experience that moves me I try to measure up to their professionalism and every one that I teach and dance with because they are the ones that make me love myself and everything around me.
TGL: What was your childhood ambition?
REYIE:: My childhood ambition was to learn how to fly..and then teach everyone else how to do it. shhh...I am still working on it.)
TGL: What are your fondest memories?
REYIE: When a priest approached me at a young age and said to me that I would grow up to be a great one day and that people would love me... Then he gave me a box of cookies.
TGL: What has been your biggest challenge in dance?
REYIE: I never thought that I was going to be a dancer so training my body was very hard challenge. I learned to break dance first before any other style of dance so changing my body and getting to work learning new styles such as ballet, modern, and house was very difficult.
TGL: What is your favorite soundtrack?
REYIE: It is the soundtrack in my head, or when I jam out in my car not caring if someone is watching imagining it is the soundtrack of my life.... ha ha ha.. Trust me it would be a hot cd.
TGL: What is your proudest moment?
REYIE: I would have to say that my proudest moment wold be every time my students smile at me and say that they are thankful that I am their teacher.
TGL: What is your wildest dream?
REYIE: To one day travel all over the world making my family proud with my group of dancers from Sol Y Luna sharing, inspiring, teaching, and learning dances from all over the world putting on the best most entertaining shows ever seen on stage in the world of dance!! That Cirque du Soleil would come to us a invite us to be part of one of their shows. Hey, I like my dream.
TGL: What is the best advice that you ever have received?
REYIE: The best advice I ever received and remember every day of my life was from high school dance teacher Ms. Tschirhart. She told me that I should see dance as art and not a sport.
TGL: Tell us about your dance style?
REYIE: I describe my dancing style as abstract. I like to dance to the white noise, and still hit the beat hard. I mix Hip Hop, funk, jazz, ballet, modern, house, pop lock, martial arts, and circus tricks to dance how my heart tells me to....my mom calls it a concussion waiting to happen.
TGL: What classes do you recommend individuals to take?
REYIE: I recommend dancers to take everything. If you are a dancer show it!
TGL: Where are you teaching class?
REYIE: As of right now, I am teaching at Yes College Prep, Lamar High School, and Hope Stone Center.
